Default Not your typical modded Performer X...

Well I decided to do something different with the Edelbrock Performer X intake manifold. Usually when modded, length is taken off the runners to typically work on larger displacement motors or carry power in higher RPM's. Tapering a runner can actually achieve the same effect as physically shortening its length. Obviously only so much can be taken off a casted manifold and lower RPM was still a want in this build.

Here we have an unmolested manifold...

Which was then cut open...

And worked a good amount, notice the bell mouths are widened enough to meet and tapered down...

It definitely needed to be port matched! The other edge of that black line is the floor of the head ports...

Opened up the throttle body to 70MM and welded it back together...

Finished it off nice and shaved, even the freeze plug was shaved. Then wrinkle black it was!

Unfortunately upon installing, a fuel line fitting was bad and sprayed fuel everywhere. So it won't be on the rollers this week, but stay tuned!

The B18C-R that made 197/136 with an unopened motor. Honestly don't know a number to throw out there, but I'd love to see 145ft lbs with a intake manifold swap!

Can you post your old chart? Anything else changing besides the IM, and are you coming from a stock ITR?

Those are niiice numbers for an unopened motor.

This is with the stock ITR intake manifold, and the ONLY change will be this modded PX intake manifold.

You can see where it flattens out around 6500, with this manifold it should carry much better, you'll see over 200 for sure. Looks like a really healthy motor.

it would be cool if you did the PX before modding also that way you know the gains after you did work.

Interesting work . This is exactly what I thinking when I made decide between S2 Ultra Street and Performer-X. Because there was so little or nothing information how Ultra Street really perform with n/a B18CR, curiosity win and I went with it.

The dyno chart I posted is with the stock ITR manifold. I'd love to test before and after modding the PX but sadly I don't have those resources. I considered buying another one for this reason, but maybe in the future.

I have a unmolested Performer X I am selling located Tampa, FL area (Not thread jacking just throwing it out there). I switched to the Skunk2 Ultra Street on my car but I am curious to see how this porting does on the dyno!

Wish you would have took a pic of the runners inside the plenum after porting.

Nice work keep us updated.

Nice I'd like to know too. As I have a px right now and look to porting it with the head in the future and like to see the gains

econo box why not just let him borrow it for the sake of dyno testing its not like its gonna break. and it will be a great comparison.

have you dynode your car with PX and skunk2 manifold? I would love to see that dyno also more than anything else to be honest both manifolds seems to be good

I have the wrong manifold for his cylinder head. If anyone was willing to donate dyno time I would be more than happy to run the car back to back with the two different manifolds. I've got a lot going on right now and I can't afford the extra dyno time.

Well here are the long waited results! 6whp and 2ft lbs were lost up top! The tune was cleaned up briefly as we knew no gains were to be made right off the bat. I have my own reasoning as to why I think the porting hurt it, but lets hear what HT has to say...

that dip after vtec looks very familiar lol

can anyone explain what its doin there on every Px dyno that I ve seen
I was assuming that it was my cheap ebay exhaust doing its job but his ITR manifold seems to have a bump in that place

I do appreciate the work and research here but this setup is being dyno'd nearly 2 years later. It's hard to compare the dyno numbers. Also, the stock itr dyno was in December.

Edit. Take back my previous opinion after seeing the opened runner entries on a monitor as apposed to iphone.

I am aware that this is unfortunately 2 years down the road. We just had a cold front roll through the other day and conditions were almost exact today! 6whp and 2ft lbs for all we know could be a valve adjustment or some other small variable, however we expected results like MikeySpec did years ago. In his setup/testing, the Performer X made 15whp and 6ft lbs MORE than a stock ITR manifold. With gains like that, we expected any number above the previous dyno.

Damn... I'm kinda speechless about this. I bet that IM on a 89mm crank would make a different story

Engine can't take advantage with the stock cams, port work, or displacement. Would of been better left alone.

honda did put together a pretty good motor in the ITR.... not a huge surprise to me there wasnt much gain.
Keen to see someone do the same with the s2 ultra street - I was going to but elected to do cams etc first as its a proven power maker.

I think you would see better gains with a ported P30 IM. Definitely more torque, and hopefully the porting will let it carry the power up top

Yeah unfortunately it seems like the power I originally made was about as good as it would ever get with stock internals. The car drives phenomenal and that's what is important. It chirps 4th gear on 280 tread wear 205 tires lol, but we will let a trap speed do the talking.
