Default can a v-tec engine be installed in my 2002 civic lx non-v-tec

Can I install a 1.7l v-tec in my 2002 civic 1.7l non v-tec? I am told that I can and either run engine without the v-tec hooked up or get a v-tec computer and wire up thee v-tec feature. Any help would be appreciated as I am going to order an engine from jdm engine land out of Toronto but don't want to make a mistake and not be able to use the engine.

Correct.

If you do decide to run VTEC, you'll need to reprogram the immobilizer at the dealership once you have the new ECU in, because otherwise the car won't run.
