Icon2 02 civic lx transmisson

My friend has a 02 civic lx and it is having transmission problems. The car runs fine for the first couple of minutes (10-15). Goes through all the gears fine. Then it starts slipping like when you clutch goes bad in a manual(stick shift). Put it into drive and it moves a little bit almost nothing. We tested the transmission solenoids, they popped when we put direct current to them. Also after it stops shifting you wait 10-20 minutes then starts working for around 5-10 minutes. Any ideas on what this could be or what to test next. We were thinking of changing the transmission filter to see if that helps if not then buying a used transmission for an 05. I heard those are the better ones.

Thanks

The clutches in the Transmission are gone. Either replace the clutches or replace the transmission. Replacing the transmission is way easier and only cheaper than replacing the clutches if you can do the job yourself.

For $1000 a rebuilt tranny would probably be the best option

clutches in the transmission ok thanks thats what i was thinking but it just sounds crazy because it shifts fine until it heats up. i just didn't want to replace it with out testing. do these models have a computer for the transmission or relay some thing electoral. link at bottom another guy same thing and they rebuilt the tranny changed torque converter new fluids and after driving 20 mins same thing happens didn't shift. I would try to contact him but he's only posted 2 times on the forum

I have an 01 civic lx with the same problem. Also read/heard of tranny being rebuilt and not fixing the issue so, what's the answer? Fork out $$$$$ for a new one? Find an '05 trans? ?????

maybe the transmission is not the problem maybe something else. something stupid, bad connector, shift module, we are going to look for a used one. but yeah from an 05 model those are the best ones.
