H22A or H23A, 1997 Accord LX F22b2 Engine Swap Question
Hi all, I know that there is a lot of info about H22A & H23A swap in to a Accord.
I have a 1997 Accord LX with F22B2 engine with over 280K on it and I had a water pump failure and through the timing belt off now I have "0" compression on #2 cylinder. I can get a valve job for about $500 with gasket set but the motor has 280K on it.
I am thinking of doing a engine swap with JDM, now the question for all of you is? which motor to choose from H22A or H23A? I know that both of them drop in but which one is the easy-er one to re-wire to my LX? and what do I need?
I can get a good deal on both of them $800 for H22A & $868 for the H23A. I have never done one on a Honda before.
If there is anyone out there can help that would be great and if there is anyone that lives in the IE? I am disabled and only have one good hand to work with. I'm in Temecula valley and able to help

Kind of depends on what you want to do.
H23 would work better with your stock transmission(gear ratios) as it will have the larger bore and stroke, more power/torque, but the same power curve.
H22 has both power and torque curves ~1000rpm higher peak than either F22 or H23s. If you changed to the H22 I would advise changing the transmission to the H22 trans as well, otherwise it will be a bit of dog off the line.
But this all depends on what you want to do and what you want out of the swap.

Sorry I forgot to add that my Accord is a 5 speed manual transmission. (manual are for people that love to drive)
If I was in to Racing, I am in to road racing and going fast. (can anyone say Ortega Highway!!! love it)

The H23, are you talking about the non-vtec version or the H23A VTEC? The H23A VTEC should have a similar power delivery to the F22B2 considering it's bore/stroke, and the much larger secondary cam should pull up top very well. I'd much rather have the H23A VTEC than an H22 or non-vtec H23. They're a steal for the price. It's like a stroker H22 with slightly better cams.
