Default D16Y8 mild setup suggestions

Hi everyone,

I have a 1998 Civic EX with a stock D16Y8 engine (only thing that is not stock are ACL turbo crankshaft bearings) and a drop in K&N filter haha.

I was planning on adding it a bit more power with this options but I have some doubts about them...
- AEM Short RAM (read somewhere that Short RAM will hurt less on Fuel economy) Any other recomended brand?
- OBD1 Modified Ecu to the setup I will be using http://www.ebay.com/itm/P28-P72-P73-P30-Honda-Civic-EG-GSR-VTEC-CHIPPED-ECU-JDM-B18b-B16-B18c-EK-EF9-EG6-/180749273778?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a157f0ab2&vxp=mtr- Stage 1 Camshaft (is it really needed for my setup? if thats so which Brand will be suitable?)
- Short Shifter (I know it will not add any power )
- Since I dont live in the US I was planning on changing my exahust CAT (Stock for sure) with an intermediate silencer

I know this will not do a huge difference but if we consider I will be changing Vtec kick at maybe 4400 rpm and rev limit to 8000rpm I might be getting someting. Maybe 15 hp?

Everything you posted? Waste of time and money. Don't know why everyone thinks dropping in camshafts on these small *** engines is going to net some kind of V-8 power gain. And don't get a bullshit "chipped" ECU off of eBay for chrissakes. They're garbage. Changing VTEC crossover by itself makes no power either. Don't know where you guys get this stuff either. WTF is a "stage 1" camshaft? Hint: Stage 1 doesn't mean anything.

Swap it or boost it. Building N/A makes no sense.

Yeah, be specific on the camshafts. How about your the valve springs/valves? Are they capable of handling it?

edit: why would you replace crank bearings and not rod bearings? Did you spec them properly?

And one more thing. Increasing the rev limit does not automatically equate to horsepower. It might actually hurt power or even cause your head to self-destruct. Another rookie mistake in thinking that power will steadily increase with RPMs. Hence the reason they rev the crap out of these econo-box engines.

Thanks for all the sincerity quotes!

So you really think none of this will even give me at least 10hp?

I found interesting the Shift Light enhancement of the ECU and also the possibility of turning off the AC while at full throttle for passing cars on the route.

For sure I will not get the Camshaft, those are like U$S 430 and you made your self CLEAR about those haha.

So not even the Short Ram would be useful? As I stated, I am good to go with at least 10hp more.

They only way to benefit is a full rebuild to accomodate a turbo. If you're on a budget and are looking for some hp to get that econo box moving than a mild rebuild (including arp head studs and rods) and a decent turbo will give you what you want. To raise the rev limiter will depend on how you rebuild the block itself.

Swap. Or. Boost. Unless money is no object. Then do whatever you want.

you may as well stretch 185/45's over a 9'' rim you'd honestly have more to show for your money spent.
