2002 accord cruise problems.
Hi, I have a 2002 honda accord ex v6 automatic transmission and the cruise control is working intermittently. these are the different symptoms I'm experiencing. 1. occasionally works properly with no issues. 2. light on gauge cluster comes on but nothing happens or is delayed and drops at least 5 to 10 mph before it kicks in. 3. light on gauge cluster flashes when you push the set button but doesn't stay on and nothing happens. also, sometimes when the cruise is engaged and I'm going down a slight hill the cruise will start to slow the car down well below the set speed and down-shift the transmission. Any ideas where to start testing?
Hi, I see that some of you have looked at my post but haven't replied. I guess it's a complicated case. Things I have done so far though are: Change clockspring, change cruise control module, and changed the brake light switch. I just changed the brake light switch today so I don't know if it fixed it or not. I'm probably going to change the servo next since I think the solenoid valves may be sticking open letting vacuum pass through instead of pulling the diaphragm and cable. I'll keep posting just in case what I find helps someone else.
Okay, so I changed the brake light switch the other day and then went on a trip from SC to PA and back. Absolutely no problems the whole way there and back. Not sure how the brake light switch can let the light on the instrument cluster come on but not let the cruise work properly unless it just has increased resistance through the switch but apparently it can.
I did check the cruise control cable among other things while trying to troubleshoot and there were no codes but thank you for your post. The brake light switch fixed it for me.
To anyone out there with the same problem, I would recommend getting a good quality switch. Honda or high end aftermarket.

I like to start a debate every now and then.
The brake light switch has what I call two switches and three positions.
Plunger all the way out (press the brake pedal) - brake light circuit is closed and the cruise circuit is open. Simple - brake lights on and cruise off.
Plunger in the "zone of indifference" - brake light circuit is open and the cruise circuit is open. Simple - brake lights off and cruise off.
Plunger "in" - brake light circuit is open and the cruise circuit is closed. Simple - brake lights off and cruise is on.
It is possible that the old switch was out of adjustment or bad. You can test the old one if you want. At the end of the day, it is working again and really doesn't matter. Thanks for the follow up as to what happened.
