F23 in 94 lx?
So I am getting in a bind and really need to get my accord back on the road soonish. It had blown a head gasket and I have had the head rebuilt but I am reluctant to put it back on the 310k short block. A local honda mechanic has advised me against rebuilding a short block with anything but a honda oil pump and rings. That math adds up fast! So I am back to looking at a used motor. I have been checking on JDM take outs. I really like the F22B DOHC motor, but they are pricey. So are the F22B2's. I have noticed some F23A's for less money though...so what is the feasibility of that swap? I don't want to jack with a new ecu or harness for the VTEC, so would it really hurt to just run it unhooked? Also, what about putting my F22B2 head on an F23 short block? Even if I stay with the F22B2 I wanted to do an F23 IM swap, and i would have the intake to use if I just used the F23 short block. I am sure this is a plumb ignorant line of questioning, but inquiring minds want to know.
I've had great success with aftermarket rings and oil pumps. the important part is to check the clearances and do the install by the book. of course main and rod bearing clearances are important too. check that the deck and bores are in spec as well.
After more looking and research I am pretty sure I am just gonna go with the F23a. They are available from JDM importers starting at $250. I can't start overhauling my F22b2 for that. I think I can even do the work to hookup the vtech and change ecu and still come in cheaper. Now for more research!
