Default 92 eg hatch/D16Y7 mini-me swap - old time member new car!

How's it going H-T?! the name is greg I use to have a account as "rocketrex" but that was a very long time ago(2006) and i've been out of the honda scene since 2008 when I last owned a 92 DA ls/vtec. Anywho i've been out of it and havent been into anything lately driving a dd camry se(quick for what it is but meh)

Recently a friend of mine who's in the service asked me if I wanted to buy his project car. A 92 eg hatch for 500 bucks...why not right? i mean it is a eg after all! A car ive always wanted since i was in junior high.

Now she is a project car so she isnt pretty at all but my goals are to first get her going and this is to why im on here asking for advice. As she sits she has a D16Y7 however it looks as if this is a mini-me engine upon research which ive seen are pretty little fun engines!. However the wires going to the solenoid have been cut off and there are many lose wires throughout the front of the car my question is do I try and rewire everything correctly as best as I can or do I just grab up a ry-wire system and start from scratch?I will do more research on my own but any advice is gladly taken and thank you for being a badass group!!!

PICS!!!

before she came to me...afb in nm picture

d16y7!

snipped off pigtail for vtec

umh what the deuce

unpluged dont know for what it goes too...

she dosent smoke at all nor leak oil

2nd picture

you've gotta excuse him he's even dumber than I am

anyway, I think u should buy a new harness because thats alot of wires and everyone knows lots of wires = lots of head aches.

the diagrams are all floating around this website tho. If a billion ft of wire doesn't bother you, well, good luck

Get a fresh, uncut harness, and start from scratch. Also, what the **** kind of special case uses red RTV for their exhaust manifold? You should fix that, too.

This is what I want to hear lol good input you two thank you! Any suggestions on where to look for one? I really doubt where I live(dfw metroplex) there's one in a yard here lol and yes soon as I popped the hood I saw the rtv and said "****, I'm in for fun now"

Doesn't hurt to check yards. Also, check the marketplace.

If I were you I would take it down to a metal shell, finish the bodywork, paint.

then start fresh with a completely different engine or at least harness. Maybe there's nothing big wrong with it but it sorta seems to me like you're gonna be chasing little problems for a while.

Yeah, if the PO used red RTV for the exhaust manifold gasket, there's no telling what other shortcuts were made...an OEM gasket is stupidly cheap. It wouldn't surprise me if it's actually cheaper than the tube of RTV that was used.

if the car is a VX or CX, it was NEVER an automatic. The unused plug behind the intake manifold is for the purge sensor.

op- track down a d15b7 distributor. it will actually fit that head, instead of the one bolt jankfest youve got going on now.

What about the hole you have in your intake? Definitely not a good idea to leave it like that..

lower- y7, upper- whatever head. as far as that dime-sized hole in the intake arm goes, epoxy a quarter or beer cap or something over it. no big deal.

That's a D16Z6 head so you'll need a D16Z6/Z1 distributor to make it fit right. They probably used a D15B7 distributor when they did the swap. I'd definitely source a 92-95 Civic engine harness and either add the VTEC wiring or get a EX/Si harness and plug and play (VTEC will already be wired at the shock tower if you keep your cabin harness).

UPDATES

so i found a local guy on craigslist with a uncut harness(thank goodness) for less then 100 bucks so i spent a bit of tonight un doing the old wiring and boy was i in for a treat

just found these wires just laying around in the front..

so i kept on unpluging more and more to get to the source and finally got it all off!!

then started checking other things before my flashlight died on me
found this on the transmission any clue?

removed battery to not shock myself and found this just sitting alone

this as well..im guessing vacuum line?

and then time for a special treat!

removed the plugs only to find more and more bs...ugh i want to get this to run! im getting inpatient! But i will stay the course!! need my check to get here!!!

Non taken man. To each there own. I'm learning my lessons but I rather have it this way now so I can actually learn about the car then not..I do get upset at somepoints but I'm liking my hands on approach to this. And once its driveble then I'll move into the rest of the car
