Default 87 CRX Trouble with acceleration

I have an 87 CRX 1.5L w/ a 3 barrel that won't accelerate pasted 45mph. It acts like its running out of gas. If I lift the gas peddle until the engine starts to run again and stay right on the fine line I can get the car up to highway speeds but it takes about a mile to get there and if I come to a hill it's all over. I have replaced all of the filters the, fuel pump, rebuilt the card and installed a pressure gauge and it didn't drop below 3.5psi. I have heard of the weber conversion but would like to fix what I have if I can... Any help would be great

Sounds like your float level is too low or you have something clogged inside. Investigate that first, but those stock carbs are extremely prone to problems and I wouldn't write off the Weber conversion if you are going to keep the car for a long time.

Basically, you'd be going to a simpler, easier to work on/maintain carburetor that gives you better gas mileage and more power. It eliminates 99% of your vacuum lines, which you will love, especially if you have old brittle hoses under the hood. It's a whole different car after the conversion I can PROMISE you. You'll be wondering why you didn't convert it to a Weber sooner.

Thanks for the reply, I'm sure the float level isn't the problem. I slowly increased the float level going a 1/4 turn at a time, test driving it between each change until the gas started to come out the overflow and the problem never changed... I did just go ahead and buy the Weber kit, it should be here for the weekend. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again

Do you have the right spark plugs, the ones specified on the hood label, not the one that the counter guy give you at the parts store.... saying they are a good cross reference.
I ran in that issue years ago.... drop the car at the stealership and for $80 installed the right spark plugs. If you are in California, the weber conversion will fail smog check.

I believe the stock number at your local parts store is NGK 5370

Owner's manual list NGK Spark Plug - BUR4EB-11 for normal driving or BUR5EB-11 for hot climate or high speed driving,
or ND W14EKR-S11for normal or W16EKR S11 for high speed driving
