Hey guys, i have a general question. I picked up a 94 integra last week.. An was wondering what were some of the problems you guys ran into when doing the timing belt. I cant imagine it being too hard. Im just sorta looking for what to watch out for sorta thing. Im going to replace water pump, gaskets, cam seals, etc anything else you can think of? car has 160k on it. runs great, but who knows when the timing belts been replaced or at all.

Make sure the crank pulley and camshafts are lined up prior to cranking/turning over the engine. Some people tend to forget this.

If you don't have a Haynes or something like it for your integra, I'd recommend getting one. It's not the best but some info is better than no info.
The crank pulley bolt is normally a PIA to break loose. As mentioned before, make sure you have the motor at top dead center(TDC). You can pull the number 1 plug out and put your oil dipstick in to make sure it's at TDC to be sure

Second the Haynes. Even better, you can search for a digital copy of the Acura service manual from Helms.

How-to.

The non-VTEC motors also have little tabs on the front cam caps. There is a hole in each one, and you can put a 5 mm bolt in to lock the cams in place. Then you only have to worry about the crank. They'll wiggle just a bit to fit the belt. Just don't forget to take them out. Work the slack from the front (exhaust) cam to the crank then to the tensioner.

a can of pb blaster and a good full 8-19mm socket set 1/2 and 3/8 deep and shallow, and a GOOD breaker bar.

I also found out i have a hole in my gas tank right at the top. so im planing on fixing that and buying a new fuel filter. other than this the car is pretty solid. struts are very nice even my hatch hydraulics work. not bad for $750. found it on Milwaukee craigslist. Ive been messaging the guy for about a month, and finally was able to take a look at it and bring it home (i got so lucky this car wasnt purchased) he had it for 875. As I stated before he didnt want to pay for a brake repair . i've also been looking at king motorsports page and was going to buy new wires and dizzy cap. i know their not the cheapest, but i want quality over anything. An plus their sorta local to me. Anything else should i check while im at it?

Don't waste your time trying to find TDC through the cylinder, once you have the crank pulley off the gear behind it will have a mark on one tooth. Line up that line with the arrow on your oil pump and make sure you line up the holes on each cam. For whatever reason the exhaust cam will always be slightly off but that is still in time. After you get the belt tensioned turn the engine over by hand just to make sure you didn't screw anything up. It's super simple so you should be golden.

They make a special tool to hold the crank pulley in place so you can break the bolt loose if you dont have an impact.

just want to give everyone an update..
I installed new brake pads and rotors all the way around. toughest brake job i've ever had to do. I actually had to drill out the screws that holds the rotor in place completely.

Thank god i bought that can of pb blaster, that you guys recommended it did work on the caliper mount. I ended up breaking two ratchets and wishing i would of bought a breaker bar before hand.

Ive started on the timing belt valve cover is off as well as the side belts. Now i just have the crank pulleys to beast off. Ive spent six hours on the car. I would have finished it but i have work tomarrow morning and cant drink a nice twelve pack to get the job done.

Those brakes were a PIA. Has anyone had that much trouble on just a brake job? Also my driver side top caliper pin wouldn't come out so i just had to slide it back in heh.. I will work on it tomorrow after work i've just never had such a tough time getting rotors and pads on in my life..

Also bought ams oil power steering oil synthetic has anyone used this stuff? I would imagine it would be safe to use on our cars As well as changed the oil to cheap Pennzoil for the time being. Thanks for your help everyone. I appreciate every post!
