I was considering Skunk 2 coilovers or Ground Control sleeves with KYB struts for my 89 hatchback. Now I am stuck on wanting Koni Yellows. You're most likely going to have to pay more than $500 though. You get what you pay for when it comes to suspension. If you buy some cheaply made brand it will not last nearly as long.

Off the shelf ground control coils with extended top hats on oem shocks. Cost you about $400 and still ride good at the height you want.

Lol, don't listen to jon. Clearly, he is a NOOB on this.. Get it?... No?.. Okay..

But seriously, if you use coils with oem shocks, they will eventually blow. It's possible you can find a koni/ground control kit on craigslist or something for around $500, but it's likely you WILL have to spend more than 500. You don't want to cheap out on suspension parts.

Progress CSII coilovers are $500-$600 shipped, new, and offer spring rates up to 450/500 I believe. That's always been my suspension on a budget suggestion since I bought them myself.

I speak from experience. A good friend of mine has been on this setup for over 3 years now. 1 inch extended top hats front, and 2.5 inch extended in the rear. Daily driven on some 15x8 +12 diamonds with 195/50 tires and he rides lower than the 2 inches the op wants to ride also. Rides smooth. Definitely not a performance oriented suspension but for everyday use it has held up great. Car is still dpfi so it's not going to be fast anyway.
