2000 civic d16y4 timing belt teeth
Hey just after some information about what timing belt to order.
I work at a parts store and we list two. One being 104 and 107.
The problem is we only have the 107 teeth in store. And don't want to be out of a car while one comes in.
Its a 2000 civic with a no frills d16y4 engine. Non VTEC nothing at all done to it.
Its also a Australian new if that helps.

d16y4 use 107 teeth.
I just tell them where to find it and if they still can't find it than they probably just overlooked it and was to anxious for an answer instead. Its like asking them to use some brain power and they think we're giving them a headache.
oh yup mr know it all!
i did search! and i wasnt 100% confident in the information i gathered.
also our gates books tells there is two belts for one engine.
so basicly you actually have to count the teeth...
went with your advice and you where wrong...cheers doushe, maybe do some of your own research

i did... i work at a parts store as stated in op its my job to cross reference as much as i can. still wasnt sold on what part, as there where conflicting threads saying both fit, just like our cataloge did, just like the dayco did, and the manual did.
and i was asking for help, you added nothing constructive at all. cheers for that.
p.s grumble mark, if you looked for more then 10 sec's as stated you would fine threads saying d16y4 used 104 teeth aswell

There is no description issues on a "Honda" parts site. They don't list one part number for two different items unless your cross referencing across different countries.

107 tooth-- part no# so and so
104 tooth-- part no# 12345678910
in every book thats what it showed. part number is not the problem.
Knowing which belt i needed was, wanted to get it done at once and not count teeth.
end of the day. it was 104 teeth. i hope this helps in the future.
Edit: didnt say it was a EK in OP

Here's a funny thing out of all of this; OP never bothered to count the teeth on the original belt. Says he didn't want to even though that would have solved a lot of people's problems huh? Would've taken maybe all of a few minutes to do.
Doesn't say why it was the belt with 104 teeth or how he found out. Even better why one engine would use two different belts (never heard of that so it's probably got to do with the head) since no one in OZ seems to know either when dealing with a car only sold there and Turkey. So, a useless post all around by all involved I'd say.

actually it says in OP that we only had the 107 teeth belt in stock at work.
and of course i didnt want to count the teeth first just in case it was the 104 teeth that i needed and i would be out of a car for two day's. so was doing research to prevent that.
but i see your a man who knows his **** so i took your word for it.
maybe take things case by case instead of jumping in all gun's blazing
no hate, but were not all noob's.
I didnt want to take it off going on a 50/50 chance we had the correct one in store. it's not a few minutes of rip er off, count it and put it back either... but it is a matter of minutes researching online first. which was the way i was going.
maybe i got you on a grumpy mood?
i hope we can still be friends

For posterity's sake, why does the Y4 list 2 parts numbers? What is different in the same engine that this is so? The bulk of H-T is not in Australia, so the next man from OZ needing to know this info will come across this thread and still not get his answer. The ONLY thing listed is what this engine is similar to but that is it. Did the specs change somewhere between 96-00?
I really dont know man.
first d series ive owned and only one i plan to.
there is also a difference in the width of the belt aswell, not much. but enough.
and a slight size difference in teeth shape which could be check by taking valve cover off
ill have a look around and get to the bottom of it and finish this thread up....
But youl probably beat me to it
Useless fact. today i googled d16y4 timing belt teeth. And this was the first page, So it probably is a good idea finding out why there is two belts listed
