Default to JDM or not JDM that is the question

well, some of you may know that i was involved in an accident... k i just found out the deal... I called my body shop, and what he said was... my insurance is paying 1600 dollars for parts and the rest is chasis work and labor charges... I called up a couple of places.. one place wanted 3200 dollars for the JDM kit with a front lip... another place wanted 3100 dollars for just the kit, and the last place i called said they wanted 2100 but fiber glass... so I need to find a kit as close to 1700 dollars cause that money has to come out of my own pocket... So i'm thinking of getting the fiber glass kit... but what im worried about is... the quality of the fiber glass kit... will my bumper like shatter if i hit a pothole or if it starts to hail.. what is going to happen to my hood? what do you people think... should i get a 2100 dollar fiber glass kit, 3100-3200 steel jdm kit which is a lot more money out of my pocket or just the regular oem integra front? How strong is fiber glass? is it durable or very sensitive? need to know quick b4 my body shop decides to order the parts and start working on it!!! im not willing to pay 1400-1500 more dollars out of my pocket.. I CANT!!

JDM Fiberglass. Just not one of those Cali-style kits that make yer car look like it could take off and fly...

I would not even consider the fiberglass front end. Fitment is usually horrible. Go OEM, either normal or J-spec.

Yeah, OEM, unless what you are going to get of of a better quality, fit and finish.

Forget fiberglass.

PM "Ic Roger" I know he has a conversion for sale for $1700 + s/h without the lip.

You can usually talk the insurnace into paying a little bit more than the first price they tell you. But if you do not want to bother with that I say fiberglass. I see too many "regular" front tegs.

Not sure what parts are fiber glass and if any are going to be oem metal. if the hood is metal, just get a CF hood. It is cheaper.

if i get the fiber glass kit... It comes with fiber glass bumper, hood, and fenders... Is having fiberglass fenders and hood a safe idea? will the slightest bump like completely destroy my fender or hood? bumpers i can understand... but something as important as a hood and fender... ehh i dunno!!

Fiberglass NEVER...it's just a cheap knock-off that will never fit perfect like OEM! So either go OEM or just back to original. IMO you should definitely go do the JDM metal conversion, especially since you're thinking about it anyway. Might as well go for it now and spend half as much as you would if you decide to do it later. Just my 2 cents, but Good Luck in whatever you choose to do!!!

If you get the JDM front clip I wouldnt park the car in the street in the Bronx if you know what I mean. I already had a car stolen from that place.

don't make your own decision, rely on everyone else to decide for you.

at what point did modding ones car change from doing things that you wanted to do to it, to what do other people like?

if people think it is gay that you are doing something to your car, F them, it is your car, tell them to look at their own POS before they start demoralizing yours.

I have a JDM front end, but only because I wanted it. some people like it, some people think it is the next rice trend. I really don't care, I have to drive it 100 miles a day and it is my car, it makes me happy.

of course if doing what other people say you should do is what makes you happy, then by all means, do what everyone tells you to do.

sorry for the rant, I just find that it is really stupid that someone would do something to their car based on what other people want, and besides that, this isn't the appearance forum.

I personally wouldn't get the Fiberglass. My homeboy has it on his car, and the front bumper starts looking shabby after a while. Fiberglass is pretty sensitive, but it is also strong. It'll break away in a clean cut piece if you hit something that leaves a dent or something like that, but rocks that fly your way etc, will leave a spiderweb looking crack on the fiberglass. My friend got a rock chip, and instead of paint chip, it turned into a spiderweb, where you see the cracks all spread out. It's up to you if you want a nice car long term, or if you wanna put in more money to bandaid cracks and stuff when it hails or you get a rock chip etc. Good luck, this one's a hard one.

If YOU really want it, just get the fiberglass front end. Just be sure you know what you are getting into. Its a risk, but then again doesnt Lotus use fiberglass body panels? I've seen some fiberglass JDM front ends and the fitment isnt all that bad. But in the event you hit another car/rock/dog/etc. it will crack and/or shatter
