Rollcage question
I'm wanting to know how involved it is to put a roll cage into my R. I'd definitely be interested in doing it before next Spring if it isn't too involved. But I was reading the post about the X cross bar GB and everyone was talking about putting the money towards a rollcage instead. So I was wanting to see pics of people's cages, if they thought it was a wise investment, and if it's incredibly imposing for daily driving (or if they're are different options for daily driving).
You best bet would be an autopower 4 point rollbar. If you want to keep your interior you would have to put a hole in each of your side panels or just strip out the back of your car. The rear seats are almost useless with a rollbar not to mention totally unsafe for passengers. Checkout ioportracing.com
IMO cage is unsafe and not needed in a daily driver.
a ROLLbar however would be perfect.

Or consider a Kirk rollbar instead of the autopower. No cutting/removing of interior needed, but rear seats must be folded down unless you go with the S&M install (cut hole in back seat back). Since the back seats are useless and dangerous for passengers anyways, this shouldn't be a concern (having to fold the seats down).
That X-Brace is fine, but would also be dangerous for passengers (if the seats even fit upright) and should not be used with a harness.

stripping the rear interior of my car isn't a problem. but the rollbar is a better option than the cage?
on the other hand, the 6 point cage will offer more rigidity than the 4 point roll bar, and more safety on the track when you ARE wearing a helmet.

True. or you could get the best of both worlds, the autopower 6 point with the front 2 points being removable, so you can put them in for track days, and have them out for street driving.
I don't see how this would be any safer. The main hoop is barely behind the driver so the extensions to attach the front points to would still be next to the drivers head, unless I'm missing something..
I guess with me it is b/c i tend to sit fairly close to the wheel where there's no real chance of my head going back that far. Covering the extensions with padding helps as well.
my legs are too bunched up in the seat isn't slid almost all the way back.. so I guess it would depend..
covering the bars in padding would help as much as covering the full bar in padding with the 2 forward points installed.. so if you sit fairly far back, I don't think it would be any safer, if you sit farther forward, than perhaps.
by seat position I mean on the rails of course, with any bar/cage with a cross brace you can't sit reclined stunna style

is it when da seat is almost fully reclined or could be also when the person in da seat is barely looking over the steering wheel?
y
shi - who sits 'stunna style' if dave defines it as barely being able to see over the steering wheel

i have dave's old cage in my car... i'm an retard for using it. However... blind spot? didn't do **** to compromise my vision. The passenger side view mirror is affected by a very minimal ammount.

a few I have sat in just seem to be a little intrusive for a street only car.
I will cage my car but it wont see street use much longer......
for a dual purpose car I see nothing wrong with a padded rollcage , I know you track your car and the cage is needed.
no offense man , the original post makes it seem like a cage is overkill in his situation.
Jamie - who like D cant seem to stop left foot braking

This car will see the track plenty, and eventually turn into a dedicated track car.
just PLEASE pad it wherever your head could hit.....
