Default 98 prelude sh brake light problems

I have a 98 prelude sh, and when I turn my lights on my rear lights all come on. Brake lights, running lights come on but the reverse lights and turn signals are fine. The lights won't turn off and I look like I am braking all the time. Please help, I've tried checking the break light switch on the pedal to no avail. Everything seems fine. If anyone can help, please and thanks.

Sounds like the brake lights are shorting to the running lights somewhere. You'll have to start tracing and testing the lines to find out where it is.

I decided to pull out the brake light switch on the pedal, and with that piece out it still acts the same way. It's the original part and I'm going to change it out, only 22$ From my mechanic. I will check that wiring while I am waiting on the part to get in.

I agree, sounds like a wiring issue. Somehow your brake light wiring is getting 12v constantly with the lights on. Either exposed wiring, causing a bridged connection, or something of that nature. Time for inspection/testing. ;-)

Yea, I unplugged the brake light switch and it was still on. Atleast I've got it narrowed down now. Tomorrow I'll trace the wiring, in the daylight. Thanks for the help.

Didn't find a short, could it be the turn signal arm? I also changed the brake switch, no luck.

What testing procedures do you use?

And no, the lever would not cause your brake lights to be stuck on - the wiring for brake lights do not go up into the wiring for the multi-function switch/lever

For the wiring I've been testing with a multimeter for voltage. I installed the brake switch and it didn't fix it. I think I'm just going to take it to the shop and have them figure it out.

you need a wiring diagram and see if they all go through the integrated control unit
