my dad's old timey drag racer's secret
My dad and I where talking about the plans to my 92 HB. I was telling him that I was gonna have to run 93 octane on my B16A. He started laughing and proceded to tell me this: That I could use zippo lighter fluid and put it in 87 octane and it would raise octane to like 102-103, he told me the ratio was for ever 5 gal. of gas use 8oz of lighter fluid. I just have a hard time believing this would work on any car other than a carb. engine, one without sensors. What are your guys take on this?
go for it.. can you do a field research for us and run that setup for about a month. Let us know what happens.

dont u have beat up car somewhere u can try it on? haha, i doubt it'll work, if it did more of us would've known about it
that is kinda what I am thinking. I ought to try it on my oldsmobile beater car, see what happens, or come to think of it, just try it on my lawnmower, see if it runs better......LOL

I know a lot of the powerstroke diesel powered trucks are using propane injection for big HP gains, but I dont think it would work on our cars.

LOL, all funny responses, all of them warrented. I personally think it is a crazy notion but just wanted your guys opinion. I also think IF it did work I would only try it on a carb'd vehicle. I personally wouldn't smoke around it if it was tried!
Thanks for the humor and rationalization in those that have responded to this post.

try adding toluene to your octane, toluene has an octane rating of 114, but you can't use that as pure gas, it has to be mixed because it is an aromatic hydrocarbon, here's a simple math problem
here's my formula
91 octane x 8 gallons of gas= 728
114 toluene x 2 gallons= 228
combine the octane numbers= 956
divide them by the amound of gallons of fuel=956/10= 95.6octane
i use it and it's the best, cuz octane booster in stores only raise the octane, .2-.5 points not actually 2-5 points, so this actually works, and it's a simple recipie

heres another old timer secret... friends dad told me.. to put dry ice in a coffee can.. and find a place to put it some place in the engine bay drill holes thru the can.. route your fuel lines in tehre.. and you'll have quicker times..i believe it in a way.. but i wouldnt go thru the dam trouble to do it
the "cool can" trick was need on low pressure fuel systems. Most Carbed cars only have 4-6 psi. With the underhood heat from engine, the gas would vaporized and cause vapor lock.
I haven't had to track down vaporlock for about 15 years now.

if u want higher octane rating just premix some methanol. for every 10% methanol used its 5 octane pts. its easy to figure out and its about the best thing out there. remember, PREMIX dont just expect it to mix in the tank.

all they did back then was slow the burn rate of the 87 fuel, **** kerosine can do that too but that doesnt mean I'd try it.
Also, for 87 with lighter fluid, it will react differently @ 50psi than it would @ 6psi so dont try it.
For the cool can idea, it works to an extent I used it in ummmm street racing years ago ... I think it helped but can;t back that up. In my race car I was planning on running a fuel cooler, looks like a oil cooler but for fuel, but then I rad all the sanctioning bodies like IDRC and NHRA and they outlawed using fuel coolers. So I have a brand new one that I bought form summit racing but never used it. heh

if ur gonna do it use toluene, because you can safely mix it up to 45% without risking anything where as methanol is unsafe over 20%, i wouldn't try methanol, i'd stick with xylene or toluene because they are safe, but toluene is safer because it's an aromatic hydrocarbon, when combusted turns into oxygen and carbon dioxide, so there is no other compound that could harm your car here, have fun and happy boostin , lol
Is there a website that sells Toluene or xylene. I cannot seem to find a place that sells these products.
Thanks,
eric

if you need a small fix of tolulene, Autozone and most decent car parts stores car Berrymans B12 cleaner.
Damn near straight tolulene.
