Icon2 Oil Light Flashing

Ok I have a 1990 Accord Ex and two weeks ago I changed the oil. About a week after that I would be driving and under no specific situation my oil light would start to flash. The first time it happened I freaked pulled right over and checked the oil it looked brand new and was full to the top. So long story short this has been happening sparaticaly for the last week but the car runs perfect you cant even hear the motor when its idling. My question is I put 5w-30 in it is this possible to thin? Should I go up a weight in oil? Also I used a Bosch Oil Filter that has an Anti-Flow Back Valve in the filter could the filter be causing this? The oil I drained out when I changed it had about 3500 miles on it and still looked fine no metal flakes or gas smell. Everyone gonna say chnage the oil pressure switch which I bought today and am changing it in the morning but just seems odd it started after the oil change. I have never used a Bosch filter has anyone else and had this same problem?

change your filter try a wix, the light flashing means there was a momentary drop in pressure, the circuit latches to let you know, instead of the light flashing and you possibly not seeing it, also that oil seems awfully thin for a 90, how many miles on it?, i wouldnt be running anything thinner then 10-30 in a car that old

It just rolled over to 200k last friday. I put that weight of oil in it because the guy at the parts store "knows hondas" and said that was the weight I needed. What weight oil do you suggest using? and do you know who carries wix filters?

o reilies carries them, Nappa gold filter is also the same thing, I'm in the third generation community and I would never run that thin of an oil on an engine with 200,000 miles, sounds like your parts guy doesn't know anything,I would run 10w-30 at a minimum maby a little heavier, if you get a new oil pressure sender, make sure it's not some universal one, these cars use 1/8 bspt thread, not 1/8 npt, which is a common standard, the sender will seem to start in, but it's one thread per inch difference.

Thanks for the advice I actually tried installing the Autozone brand pressure switch today and I had this exact problem. It seemed like it wanted to bite the threads when I tried to screw it in but wouldnt. The guy at Autozone acted like I was retarded when I returned it and tried showing him the diff in threads. I went to the honda dealership and got an OEM one I will be installing it tomorrow.

Also what weight of oil is to thick to be running? where I live its in the 90's in the summer but in the winter it stays around 20. I'm going to change the oil and filter again tomorrow I need to know what weight to get so it keeps the oil pressure up.

Also just a thought my cb7/1990 HONDA ACCORD just reached 200,000 miles a few days ago but ever since like 190,000 miles my oil light would flicker on and off at times turned out to be a bad solder connection all this time and I thought something was wrong with my engine LMFAO I was troubleshooting the **** out of it too.... Removing the gauges and fixing the solders fixed my problem in the end it never goes off at all now. Try smacking the dash a few hard times with the key on right before start up to see if it goes off at any time try it with the car running even.

this is flashing, there is a circuit in one of the control boxes, that provides an additional ground to flash the light when it detects even a brief drop in oil pressure from the sender, the light will come on without the box, it just provides an additional ground, if pressure briefly dropped, you might not notice the light flicker, but this assures you notice. it only works after the engine is already running, the charge light warning wire goes positive when the alternator is running, and this signals that module to arm itself and monitor oil pressure. It's early race technology transferred directly to street cars, I know my third generation accord does the same thing, I'm not sure how far back that setup goes, it's perfectly possible that the sender is failing, and sending false low oil pressure readings, they don't last forever, it's just a little rubber diaphragm in there. I know the one on the lincoln would fail every few years

It is more than likely the oil pressure switch. I would suggest using some teflon tape when installing it to ensure that oil does not leak from it.

Your oil should be fine as 5w-30 is what should be in it. You can try using 10w-30 if the oil light still flashes after changing the switch, but that really should be the only other alternative.

Bosch filters are GREAT! They are my preferred filter and are just as good as Wix.

actually you dont want to use teflon tape, it has to ground to the block, use the liquid thread sealer, comes in a small white tube, all the auto parts places sell it
