I have a 99 civic hatch and lately I've been hearing a scratching and grinding noise every now and then while driving. It sounds like its coming from the passenger side front wheel. My passenger side has had an axle replaced (months ago) and wheel bearing (over a year ago). My drivers side axle is pretty bad but I don't think thats making the noise. I'm going to replace that axle tomorrow. Have any of you guys heard this noise before?

I don't hear anything other than engine and wind noise.

 

You might want to turn up the volume a bit. You can clearly hear it around 8 seconds into the video. As soon as i start accelerating, there is a clicking sound. It's definitely not a normal noise to hear when driving

Edit: There's no wheel play when I shake the wheel (when the car is jacked up). I still think it can be a wheel bearing issue, but I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing a part if it's not the culprit. I think all those little ***** in the wheel bearing might be loose enough to be making a constant clicking noise while driving, but i'm not sure. What do you guys think?

 

Could be a cheap *** axle. I don't recall bearings clicking when they wear out.

 

I think it is the axle now. I looked up some videos and they all click similar to mine. The thing is that mine clicks when driving in any direction, and the people complaining about their axle have it clicking during turns. My passenger side axle (where the noise is coming from) was replaced w/ a duralast one from autozone. I'll just get a new one through warranty and grease up the splines. I read on a 350z forum that his new axle did the same as mine and just greased it up and the clicking went away. I'll just get a new one just in case.
