Default Little oopsie my friend had with his turbo car... (Non Honda Related)

I thought you guys would appreciate this...

My friend has an 88 Shelby Shadow CSX-T.. 28lbs of boost on the stock TD-05 Mitsu turbo... well, 28psi was a lil bit too much for the turbo to handle...

Intake looks fine, right?

Well, something is wrong with the exhaust side... just can't figure out what though...

Snapped the propellor shaft... whoops... So what do you do when something like this happens??? UPGRADE!

Turbonetics Super 60 turbo..

And the comparison shot..

What the car looked like at 7:30 last night...

And what it looked like at 11:00 when i went home...

We are goin to e-town with it this weekend... if anybody's there, look for us... look for this truck,

Towing this car

and my car, which looks like this, will be parked near it...

What do you guys think? Probably gonna leave it around 20-25 psi... his intercooler is his only bottleneck now...

I would think that 25 psi with that super 60 is going to be a bit much

The motor's compression is about 7.8:1 if i recall... brand new head gasket, plenty of flow, but we are gonna see what the EGT's say and crank up the boost with the 110 octane, until the EGT's hit about 1600-1650... Look at it this way... 28psi on the mitsu turbo, his EGT's were at 1500 degrees... and BTW, he's runnin a walboro 255lph pump, adjustable FPR, and 52# an hour injectors.. With a custom ECU program..

I'm from ClubSi... Have we met? I'm tryin to remember you.... I'm old skool CSi...

Not for that car... the EGT's can safely be 1600, or push it to 1650... usually on the old setup, they were 1650 at about the 1000' mark... that was pushin it a bit... He has a friend that does 1700 degrees i believe...

I think i remember you... look for us at E-town... i'll be the chubby guy with either the corona hat, or the Black Carhartt winter hat...

there are 2 broters here in MN that has some pretty fast dodges

shadow that runs very very low 13's and an omni that does 11's.

They tow the shadow with a turbominivan that runs high 14's

It's actually a stock Garrett T-03

We'll see what happens this weekend. I'm not going to expect anything, so I can be happy/surprised when anything good happens. Hopefully some of the Turbo Dodge guys will be there, and also hope to meet some of the Honda guys that Scrapinsi talks about.

Hopefully 12's... I think Gary should bust out the K-car, and rip of some low 10's, maybe even some 9's...

looks like he could be running a little richer, needs a lil more fuel under high boost!

that gentlemen should really invest in a wideband 02 if he wants that motor to stay alive.

the only thing i hate about those engines is the damn non-crossflow SOHC engine. That turbo in the back SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

=]

but they go like spit, and have a tough bottom end.

yeah, very tough bottom ends... i think gary was pushin 350ish before a piston let go in his k-car... and i think it just let go b/c he leaned out...

Yup. i have a friend, stock shortblock 1.6L engine runs 28 lbs of boost and a 100 shot of nos.

hasn't blown anything yet... fastest time is a 10.06 with traction problems, and can only NOS in 3rd gear because the trans slips.

do any of you guys know who has the K car that runs in MD, I saw that car run a 10.3 a while ago, like 2-3 years, it was a silver or tan 4 door, with a 2.5 motor and N20, automatic and a weird two intercooler set-up. Towed it in there (Cecil County) on a dolly, haha this was when I drove mine on the street still. Just wondering if he busted a 9 yet.

I cant get over the 80's turbo Mopars, I sweat them so much. My dad had an 86 glhs and it was sick. K & N drop in, 3 inch exhaust, and the mopar chip. I was very young when it caught on fire but I still want one. Ive been looking all over, but no luck, I know its not honda related but maybe somebody could point me in the right direction. Looking for either 85 omni glht or an 86glhs. for turbo mopars, some of the most slept on automobiles on the roadway, its to bad the numbers of them are diminishing.

Are you sure the 1500º is accurate, considering the turbine melted? I don't think they normally self-destruct at temps that low...is your EGT probe in the manny or down pipe?

LugNuts... If it was a 2 door, it was gary... And no he hasn't hit 9's yet...

I think my friend with this shadow has an omni he might be willing to sell... its already got lexan windows, gutted interior, weight reduction, and a worked up block...

And the turbo didn't melt, the t shaft broke off, and sent the thing flyin... he was overspinning the turbo...
