Default f20b full swap into 96' prelude ?s

Im thinking about doing a full swap i to my 96, just wondering if there will be any complications ,if i should use all my old manifolds or not, and just any relevant concerns. Thanks HT.

can you run obd1 in your local area with the 96? If so it is easier, if not you will need to swap out oil pumps for the CPS. You also need a new dizzy, and use the intake manifold from your current H if you got. Exhaust mani is what ever you have for it.

No i need to stay obd2 i live in cali. I was hoping that a full swap wouldnt be too bad since i will have the full wiring harness and ecu for the f20b.

Just swap your bare block and head using all original parts (manifolds, injectors, dizzy)

I had considered that, but read the f20b doesnt have a crank sensor and the dizzy is different. And i was hoping to use all f20b stuff including ecu for smog and possible BAR compliance.

You will need the rare p13-a12 ecu to bar it.

I cant use the f20b "pcb" ecu that comes with the swap for barring? Also i was hoping not to dick with the motors swapping sensors and what not. Its looking like that may be the only way.... :/

I'm running my f20b on a stock obd 1 p14 ecu, with all obd1 h22 parts

You should be able to do the same with your obd2 PCM and all matching harness injury. Sens. Diz. Ckps

You will need to treat the f20b like an h22a1 which means you will need the usdm ecu. Obviously the f20b didnt come in the US.

Also, im not even sure if anyone has ever even been able to bar the f20b as an h22a1 but it should work. Just show em the wikipedia page that shows it's more or less the same as an h22a.

So is a "bar" like a waiver slip or something? Im not from cali and have heard that term a bit. Whats the difference in bar'ing and passing emissions or inspections?

its a sticker that tells future smog testers to treat the smog test as for the new engine

Would it be possible for the prelude to swap over a f20b engine with out exchanging the existing cps and oil pump from the prelude?

With that said, can the user utilize a conversion harness such as:

A: http://www.rywire.com/catalog/obd2b-...ness-p-21.html

+

B: http://www.rywire.com/catalog/obd2b-...ness-p-21.html

How does one make an easy plug and play from the removal of the prelude engine to the f20b?

the f20b is already obd2 so it already has the crank sensors so you don't need to swap anything over

It can be a pain to rewire the jdm dizzy to work on a usdm harness though. I believe passwordjdm or it was someone else that makes a Y-spliter adapter which splits the jdm plug into two usdm ones the dizzy, and CPS for plug and play applications.

Assuming he already has an h22a1 he will simply use his existing distributor and it will be plug and play.

He will need his h22a1 injectors though. The f20b injectors will require deleting the resistor box.

I was just talking about the dizzy CPS issue being plug and play. If he uses his USDM dizzy, then he will no longer have any CPS what so ever on the car. Which if its going to be "bar'd" wouldnt it be obd2 and need a CPS? Only other option is to swap oil pumps right?

One of these is what I was talking about though http://passwordjdm.com/PasswordJDM-D...P1881C459.aspx

96 was a weird year for preludes, I thought the obd2 ones came with the in-pump CPS, like all H22A4 stamped. If he has the one on the crank he should be golden then.

The f20b has a OBD2B distributor which only has one plug.

If the user were to use the original harness from the prelude then he would need to splice or buy the rywire distributor conversion wire (Posted in my previous post) to convert from the prelude distributor wire (OBD2A) to the f20b OBD2B distributor.

You can take that route if you don't want to swap over the distributor from the prelude into the f20b.

I think the best option would to utilize the f20b distributor with the conversion harness from Rywire.

Then you can use the ecu OBD2A to OBD2B conversion harness to use the f20b ecu.

Let me know if this sounds right, correct me if I am wrong but right now I am preparing the swap for my 97 prelude base.

Why would the best option be to use the ecu that he can't BAR the motor with ?

Since nobody knows what engine he has, there is no way to give definite advice at this point and the OP may be one and done here anyhow.

This sounds like a good course of action. I think ill go that route. Thanks HT.

^ x2

More info about OP's car is needed, but I guess the OP decided what he's doing already.

Good luck OP, I have a feeling you will be back asking why it didnt pass before too long.
