Default Advice - purchasing a '01 Accord EX-L

Hi all,

I am about to purchase a '01 Accord EX-L V6 from a coworker. The car has about 115K (highway) miles and has had all regular maintenance done (per my coworkers detailed Excel maintenance log). He will selling the car because he is upgrading a diesel Mercedes.

The car is in great shape in terms of cosmetics and upkeep but my concerns are:

Transmission reliability - He has changed the ATF fluid at: 44K, 82L and 113K miles respectively. However, having read thru numerous posts on HT I am not worried that this transmission could go out on me right after purchase. Is there a quantifiable % of owners who experience tranny failure?

Steering - I don't know if its just me but the steering seems a bit stiff, I recall many years ago driving my cousins brand new 1999 Accord and the steering movement was like butter.

Any comments or feedback?

Thanks for looking

How much is he selling it to you for? I don't think the transmission will give you issues any time soon since it's been maintained. As for the steering you can make sure nothing is bent and there are no leaks and the pump is working properly. 115k is still a baby lol

Thats good to know. I am buying it for about $3600. It includes almost new Michelin Primacys (2k miles on them) and all fluids (except brake) were replaced 2k mile ago as well. not sure if they were honda brand coolant but I will find out.

Sounds like a good deal. Did he say if the brake fluid had ever been flushed?

Fluid was flushed about 20k miles ago or 4.5 yrs ago.

Also found out that all maintenance was done at Honda including the t-belt and waterpump. So it looks like I will indeed be buying this!
