Good Trade? mr2 for eg
My 1992 civic dx, it has fiber images hood, si wheels, 78k, and i have H & R racing springs and KYB AGX waiting to go on...for a 1991 mr2 non turbo with 160k engine totally rebuilt at 153k new clutch, brakes, and alternator and rear tires. would this be a good straight up trade, he wants me to give him some money but i dunno he wants like $1000. lets hear what ya'll gots
I wouldn't even do a even trade. The MR2 non-turbo is pretty slow, not much if any faster than your civic. Plus your civic is alot easier and cheaper to modify. Plus $1000 there is no question, keep it!

NO! NO! dude are you on something?
keep your civic. if you do the trade i guarantee somewhere along the line you'll regret it.
All i know is that mr2's are so tight, i never get to drive them much but last night one came in, (by the way i work valet) so i ripped it down the lot and it spools up soo good. i would much rather have one than an eg. Im willing to bet my whole car that the boner i get from drifting surpases any front wheel drive boner i have ever gotten.
i would only trade for a turbo mr2
I wouldn`t even do that. Ever worked on one?

Just a little FYI - There is a non-turbo Mr2 that is now turbo (5SFE motor) and runs a 10.5 fully streetable...515rwhp, and he's able to up the boost still.
Case in point, the car can be made fast with money, just like any other car. But if you're looking for reliability and ease of working on it, keep the Civic.

Love it.
do it.
Trade.
Anyway..
Read this:
Okay, you have to answer these simple questions.
1) do you carry alot of things around with you?
2) RWD or FWD?
A complete J-Spec 3sgte will run you about 3k.
The MR2 is also a good platform for all motor, if you want to go that route.
Anyway, I love mr2's and am in the market for another.
The MR2 will cost alot for to fix up than a civic will simply because the mr2 parts are harder to come by.
You amke the choice

Only if it is straight up, don't give him 1k.

IMO it would depend on the options that each car has. Your EG is most likely worth more (as far as blue book) than the SW20. It is a very fun car to drive and own, but when it comes to working on them it's a PITA. I had to change the alternator on mine and it was like giving birth. You have to remove the tensioner bolt and the pivot bolt, put the car up, unbolt the exhaust pipe from the muffler and move it to the side, the reach up in to the tiny little space between it and the axle and pull the alternator out through the small space between the cross member and the axle. I do miss the car, but I've done so much work on MR2s including a motor swap that I would take my del sol over the MR2 any day. The 91 is cool cuz they weigh less, but the 93 +up have better suspension and things like that. If you were to get a MR2 I would strongly suggest a 93-95. Buy a NA and swap in a 3rd gen turbo motor. You can get the clip for $3K get it installed for $2K or less and be running 12's with just a couple mods. The biggest downfall is that it takes way more money to get a Honda as fast as you can get a MR2, but the Hondas are always more reliable. What's funny is looking outside and thinking, "Damn my MR2 is broken, my boyfriend's MR2 is broken, and my del sol is working fine! Hmmmm." This is exactly why there are 2 del sols and 1 MR2 now.
