So to give some background to the idea a few year back while I served 3 years on a navy ship I got really interested into electric car conversion, I know Im not on the best site for it but I dont care. You can buy kit now a days and build one at home but the batteries are still the main issue (price wise) if your curious the main web site I check for supply is http://www.cloudelectric.com/. So the thought with the hybrid part of the idea is alot of supercar and expensive one are removing the starter and replacing it for an electric motor that serve this purpose, starting it, adding power or using it to cruise at low speed. So that being said you can see on the website they have smaller electric motor that can push 30hp (peak power) and 70tq (electric is all tq all the time) on a 72v system (20hp for 48v) . Obviously the thought here would be to remove the starter and replace it by one of those, they sell controller from the web site and as far as driving the electric motor I dont see any issue with some custom bracket. To charge it I dont think one alternator would be much help, but my main issue at this point as im only starting to learn to tune is how can you turn off only the ignition and fuel supply when you are using only electrical power or turning it back on when you want to reactivate the engine. I am not planning to experiment on that one anytime soon but I thought some people might be interested to talk about it. On top of the obvious about powering the car you could also use the electric motor to help for braking as you can turn the motor into an "alternator" using a controller with regan for regenerative braking which charge the system while doing so. I know I lack alot of practical knowledge on the matter but Steve Job wasent the one building the computer he just had the idea...not that im comparing myself to him. Anyway feel free to point out flaws in the idea or input, im always curious, can you imagine potential if you added that to a civic vx (and it worked).
