Default 1998 v6 automatic trans fluid

i checked my trans fluid
drove till reached normal temps then cycled through the gears then checked. dipstick has two holes (lower and high mark)
and my fluid is atleast an inch over? when i start car and put on reverse it jerks pretty violant could this cause this? drain fliud or try to siphon?

Did you recently change it or? I would do a 3x drain and fill with geniune honda ATF.

It should not be higher than the high mark on the dipstick when at operating temp.
Drain and refill, you can reuse the fluid as long as the containers you use to catch the fluid is not dirty. And you may just pull out some junk while draining, which is good.

What I was saying was, for now, to drain out the fluid from the pan into a clean container. Then refill your trans with that fluid to the correct level. Since you have too much you just need to refill it up til it reaches the low mark, then start the engine, let it pump and keep filling until the high mark is reached. Done.

It is not good to drive with too much fluid as the fluid may be churned up and aerated by the gears. Which will then cause excessive wear and tear.

yeah but idnt even know if previous owner had put honda atf so if ima go ahead and drain it out imight as well put some new honda atf right?

What does the dipstick say on it to use? Older 90-97s actually have 'DEXRON II' embossed on the dipstick. Main concern is to either drain the trans of the excess fluid or not drive the car until you can.

mine doesnt say anything on it.
but i looked up owners manual and it says use honda atf.
