Default 89 civic dx tranny leaking

Noticed the other day when I had my car on the lift for the first time getting exhaust work done, I had a pretty major trans leak! I cannot tell a specific place where it's coming from but that every bolt head and nut has oil on it. I tried tightening them but they're tight. Only other thing I can see if it's mainly wet from where the trans halves meet. Any way to stop this? Stop leak oil or anything of that sort? Or pull the motor and tranny and fix the oil pan leak also?

Well, if the transmission case isn' cracked, is it a Manual Transmission or Auto? If it is a Manual Transmission, you could inspect the seals on the side of the transmission that the cv axle/half shafts go into. Their black rubber circles. You can replace them outside of the tranny without having to take it out. Also check the seal the shift linkage slides into.

If yoiu replace them and it is still leaking, it may be your rear main seal or some seals or gaskets from your head leaking down the passenger side, only if the oil is brown.

If you overfill a Manual Transmission, it will leak out of the cv axle holes.

For auto tranny's, good luck. I actually never messed with any Honda's auto tranny. But I'm assuming its similar with the axles set up. Also check your tranny pan.

First thing to do is clean everything thoroughly. Then give it a week or so and check again and see if you can pinpoint the leak.

The axle shafts are not leaking. And the drain plug isn't either. It's a 5 speed. I don't see a specific place of the leak just from the shift linkage that goes into the tranny and all around where the 2 half's bolt together
