Icon3 New honda Owner Need help!

Hi Im new around here, And this site, I have a 1989 honda accord lx, Its an automatic, I bought the car knowing it had a head gasket problem, but Im not even sure that's the problem anymore, I have the head gasket kit and everything Im actually knew to this whole having my own car thing, I dont know much besides the basic, I have a mechanic as a boyfriend and he found out that my coolant reserve tank i think you call it, but anyways it had a huge hole in it, and so I bought a new one, and he said the problem is my ignition, My car wont even turn over, I put the key in the ignition and nothing happens, I turn my headlights on my dash lights come on too, I honk my horn and my dash lights come on, Ive gotten it started once, by putting gas down the carburetor choke and touching the starter but it died like two minutes later, and you cant even control the idle, I talked to a Honda mechanic and i got told it sounded like someone put an aftermarket alarm in my car and it killed my ignition. Im asking you guys because you might be able to help me figure this out, I have done research but I'm not ever sure what to look up online for, It can be many things, I'm still in high school and just need my car up and running any ideas on what it can be? can be something big or small? is it my electrical system, Alternator? Please help! thanks.

I would make a thread in the appropriate model-specific forum, you will get much more traffic.
