My gf bought a 2012 certified TSX Technology Package from TX 4/19/2014, but we live in Louisiana. After the purchase we drove back home and about 30-50 miles out the TPMS notification comes on. We pull over and evaluate each tire. No issues. Once we get home I google search TPMS issues and see that sometimes you have to take it to the dealer to get it reprogrammed. We take it to the nearest Acura dealer 4/23/2014 and they tell us it'll be $700 because the sensors in the wheels are missing, we have rubber tire stems.

We tell them the car is certified is that something that is supposed to be installed on a certified TSX he tells us yes. So we contact the dealer and of course they tell us it should've been installed and that there is no way the light would not have come on the instant the car cranked without the sensor. I've contacted the Acura client relations because this is unacceptable. All four tires showed the error not even an hour after leaving the dealership. Anybody have any experience with something like this? Thanks for any feedback.

 

Mine do update just idling in the garage. I have 2 sets of wheels and they read the new ones within a few minutes.

If you have to buy some buy the rdx ones......they are $25 at stealer each. A04 is the ending part number.

Next........i would be going after 1st stealer. If tpms missing what elsr on that "certified" checklist was ignored, overlooked, or not even insprcted at all. I would be demanding whater $$$ a cpo adds on the price refunded.

Get gm or owner on the phone. Ita only a few days from purchase to disvovery. WTF are they saying you removed the tpms......which requires a tire machine to do.........Tell them to fedex you the tpms NOW. Then any tire shop can install.

 

TPMS does not start monitoring pressure on most cars until certain conditions are met, mainly that the vehicle is moving for a consistent distance and speed. This is generally required when a sensor is defective and requires a retraining procedure. Not all manufacturers use the same procedures, and many need to be manually initialized before they ECM will validate the signal from it.

The TPMS does not transmit signals all the time, most use a pulse cycle system. It is practically impossible for most cars to recognize the sensor is missing until the car begins to move meeting the minimum detection requirements.

Any car post-2008 should have a direct tire pressure monitor installed at each wheel, and in the case of Chrysler, they even install them in the spares on some models. Are your rims OEM? Or are they aftermarket? Not all TPMS sensors are compatible with aftermarket wheels. If they are, it is federally required that any vehicle safety system be evaluated before even a certified pre-owned car leaves the lot. If not they are in violation of the law.
