97 ex rpm fluctuation @ high rpms
Hello guys! I have a problem that's been really bothering me lately. I have a 1997 honda civic ex. I have the stock d16y8 in it and it's automatic. Recently my car keeps stalling. It will only stall when I run higher rpms. Once I hit about 4000 the rpms fluctuates really hard and my car jerks a lot. At low rpms my car runs great! At first I noticed my crankshaft position sensor was cut from my alternator belt. I replaced that thinking it would fix the problem.. Nope. I took it to a shop and had them run a test to see if I have any codes. None. He told me to replace the fuel filter and see if that would fix it. It didn't. I'm pretty aggravated and I just need it fixed. Can anyone give me suggestions?
Do a test on the ignition coil and wires? Clean up your electrical grounds in the engine bay. Otherwise it could be a failing distributor, though one thing you might want to do is follow the wiring harness that plugs into the distributor and push/tug on the wires a little bit while the engine is idling to see if you hear/see any change in operation. It's entirely possible the wires are loose in the harness.
