A few questions about Carbon Fiber hoods
This was not in the FAQ
On these aftermarket hoods be it Carbon Fiber or fiberglass do you need a different hood if you have an upgraded motor like a B18?
I have a D16 now but I will go to a B18 later down the road
Thanks in advance

To answer the question, if you only go for a b18 non vtec, your oem hood will fit. If you put a b18 vtec inside, you just have to space your hood up so it wont hit your valve cover. You can also remove some of the hood support under it so the clearance will be better.
I have a B18c in le old EF and the OEM hood hits the valve cover but does close. Also had a VIS carbon fiber hood which also hit and didnt want to press down it for fear it may crack. So that why im going JDM front lol. Im running AZ racing motor mounts.
Cool thanks everyone
I am learning a lot, for one weight savings is getting pretty costly
It’s probably going to be equivalent to the cost of a B18 swap

Had to cut the support beams out of mine. I have a 98 spec B18C type R, which I believe is a tighter fit possibly. The innovation mount I have gives you ground clearance, but not hood. I believe the hasport does the reverse.
what ppl dont seem to get.. is if ur using a full size radiator it most likely will hit the hood regardless what u use if going b series.
as for the " hump " u can shove any b series in and not have to worry about clearance... doesnt matter if its vtec or a ls. ppl who have problems may just be using cheap ebay mounts that sit the motor higher.
and personally, find a real carbon fiber hood. so many fakes out there that have like 10 layers of clear coat before u hit the real cf. they tend to beach out from the sun after a year or 2 if its a outdoors car. wax comes in handy every few weeks
and if need be.. there are spacers to lift the hood where it bolts up.. u can buy usdm version hoods that have scoops etc... and i suggest using hood pins because iv seen the hood fly up when the hatch ripped right off the hood

This is also wrong. There are no full carbon fiber hoods for these cars. If your just looking for the space buy a fiberglass one. The CF hoods you see for these cars are fiberglass with one layer of CF, just for show. If you want to be technical, I guess that means that there is some CF in these hoods. The quality can vary, I would stick with VIS or Seabon.
FYI: I once priced out a true all CF trunk for a bimmer, it was 3.5k.

Hello,
Hood pins are recommended for additional safety, but not required. The
VIS hood will install the same way a factory hood does, using hinges
and latch. Unless you purchase a dry carbon fiber, all other carbon
fiber hoods we carry (over 98% of them) are made with carbon fiber
laid over fiberglass. 100% CF hoods cost over $2000. ViS hoods weight
about 20-25 LBS. Thank you.

for a long time I would not consider a CF hood since it was sort of smoke and mirrors, you’re buying a fiber glass hood with a few layers of CF and then they charge people some hi price.
but here is the other side of the coin let’s say I buy a fiber glass hood for cheaper, now I have to get that hood prepped and painted, but the carbon fiber hood I just put the thing on
So that's why I am going with CF

This is excellent information. I actually never knew about the whole CF hood being fiberglass with a CF overlay. I was planning to get a CF hood and have it painted but now I'll just get a fiberglass. Here's a question though fellas. Do they make the JDM inverse for usdm front hoods in fiberglass?

I found this site but I could not confirm quality or fitment so I am going to go with VIS

Years ago I bought a fiberglass hood from Raceon-USA.com for my Toyota. I custom ordered fiberglass because of the CF overlay thing.
I think they were run out of business because so many people got bad CF hoods from them.

blu civic care to explain the " nope "
what b series wouldnt fit lol? iv ran a b16/b18 ls and a b18c with a stock cf hood. like i said pick ur mounts and u wont have clearance issues
and he also didnt state what car hes in, but unless u plan to gangsta lean/custom mounts with a full size oem radiator it will hit the hood -.-
been there done that thanks

and creator u are correct, im implying that you can find cheap hoods that sun peel easily, show bubbles/blemishes, and tend to be wrapped instead of the cf being laced.
and for recommendation, seibon is the way to go, nothing against VIS though
