i have a 96 accord exr with arround 180,000kms on it and the engine light randomly came on and flashed for a few seconds and then went solid. i plugged a scanner into it and found out that cylinder 2 and 4 had misfires and after i cleared them a week later the engine light came back on and im wondering what the cause of that might be?

 

switch the coil pack 1 and 3 and see if the misfire moves. if so then you need two packs. if not maybe plug or injector or cylinder problem.

 

96 had a distributor and one coil. Check the plugs for proper gap and contamination, check the wires, and check the dist cap for any damage or corrosion or arcs

My first guess would be the egr ports are clogged. Fairly easy to fix on your car compared to most hondas. Google "eric the car guy honda egr cleaning".
