Default Keep It Simple - Track Fun

Oh the joy of keeping it simple.

I have found the fun in my '98 Type R again over the last 2-3 months and had it out for a little track fun this past weekend at The FIRM in Starke, Florida.

You don't have to build your car into what you consider the perfect car before enjoying it...just use it as it is.

Car is a '98 with 169k miles on it..Koni Yellows on OEM ITR Springs, Toyo RA1's, Cobalt Front Pads and a 4.7 Final Drive.

Unfortunately the screw holding the rotor in backed out and destroyed the cap/rotor ending the day early but any time on track is good time on track

A bad day at the track is usually still a good day.

These cars are so much fun on track even in stock trim.

Excellent advice. While mine isn't as stock as yours, it is close to a stock car and I plan to keep it that way. Simple is always best.

Good stuff!

Be sure to leave the screws out of the rotors next time!

Look like you have a cushion in between you and the seat back. is it to prevent the head rest from push against your helmet? If so, turn the head rest facing backward and it will help. Nice run.

The screw in the distributor cap rotor failed....not the brake rotor (which we don't run anyways)

Nah, no cushion, I tend to find myself sitting my upper body forward for some reason when using stock seat belts....I do run the CG Lock with the OEM seat belt which is a really nice piece to help but that is mainly secures the lower body

Your comment is something after 34 years I am starting to realize is true.. Simple is best and just get out and enjoy it. You can spend 6000 more dollars for a built motor to run .2 seconds a lap faster and have the same amount of fun.

Get out there and do it. Good work.

If I were to do it all over again I'd be tracking my bone stock(ish) ITR as is. Spending money on "track parts" was kind of a waste IMO. I would have rather spent that money on seat time. Oh well, live and learn. Now I have a fully built ITR that sits. LOL!

I'm in your shoes Chris. I spent ~2 years sidelined from tracking while I built my 98'. I could have just bought a running caR or stuck to basic bolts-on's. I would have been tracking in months instead of waiting around on items like my head from Rocket (10mos). Some lessons you just have to teach yourself. The 97' has remained fairly stock for that reason.
