Everytime I hit around 1000 to 2000 rpms I get this rattling sound under my 97 accord.was thinkin it could be the cat but didn't see it hitting anything. Also tried reving it in neutral while the car was up on jacks but it wouldn't rattle only when I'm driving it happens. Anyone have similar problems? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

 

its the infamous buzzkit, i believe it was the heat shield(under your car) that makes this noise. you can either go to honda and purchase the "buzz kit" or you can just buy a catback system and it will go away(thats what happened when i got my tanabe).

 

I already have a DC sport cat back and this noise just started. I'll have to get back under there and check it out.

 

i have the DC Sports cat-back also. Mine rattle right at 2100 rpm. It's the heatshield rattling against the exhaust. my location where the rattling occured was near the passenger side door, about a foot infront of the passengers side back wheel. I used a wrench to pry the heatshield away from the exhaust piping. There was a post on this earlier last week.

 

Thanks, it does sound like it's coming from that location I'll take a look at that area too

 

why don't you just remove the heatsheilding all together?

 

It's the heatshield but I can't seem to get the shield off. The bolts are rusted and it looks like I'll stripp it. Can't I just break the shield off cause thats what caused the rattling it was cracked. Is there an easier way to take it off?

 

the bolts are it buddy. are they badly corroded or just rusty? dunno how they take care of the streets up there during winter in philly but mine weren't too bad. take as many of the bolts out as you can and if any strip grab some shears and cut around the bolt but then if it strips you may be able to pull the metal over the bolt. pull the exhaust off first though right after the flex pipe. go in a and use some muscle. the heat shields aren't critical so don't be afraid to get harsh
