I had always thought that it was a law to have a third brake light on the back of your car. I took off my spoiler and jammed that light up there for the third light, but i was talking to a mechanic guy and he said that it wasnt even a law because he didnt have it on his truck, i dont know how that would make it a law. . mechacnics. . . ., but is it a law or what?

 

As far I know it's not illegal here in FL to have no third brake light. It is however illegal to have two 'third' brake lights. (AKA a 4th brake light) Not quite sure why, but I've been pulled over twice in my Dads car (99 3.2TL), and it came that way stock. Got warned both times luckily. Not sure if this helps, but it's my $0.02 nonetheless.

 

I read somewhere once that all cars made after a certain year, 82 or 88 had to have a brake light.
