How did they look up the kit for you?

What are they rebuilding in the head anyways, there is not a ton to replace unless you have damaged or worn parts, and the machine shop can probably get it all at a good price for you as needed.

Well the car is burning a ton of oil so I figured the machine shop rebuild the head for 200$ as long as I bring the seals but autozone said they had the seals from felpro and the package from them said SOHC and the H22a is DOHC

Fel-pro might be fine for domestic V8s, but I wouldn't use it for a Honda. Just have the machine shop go over the head, and order anything you need from the Honda dealer, or have the shop order and install it.

If you are burning oil from the bottom end the head won't fix it though, so how much troubleshooting has been done? Compression test, leakdown test?

If you have a valve cover gasket, you'll know if it is SOHC or DOHC because on the sides, there will be 2 humps for each cam gear. If there is one hump, it's obviously for single cam and you know it isn't compat. The headgasket may very well be the same.

snobordboy is right, though, about the burning oil. Does the engine have a knocking sound in the bottom end? even slightly (it will stand out over valve chatter) then your bearring is spun and your money would be better suited to go towards a jdm replacement - especially after you factor in Labor&parts just to rebuild the head.

- I'm actually peeved the shop that quoted you on rebuilding the head didn't suggest troubleshooting further either.

trustUS, follow the advice you get at honda-tech, not the people you have been getting advice from thus far.

First things first, do a compression and leakdown test. any decent shop / honda dealer can complete this.

That happens often. Ive been working in shops for only 6 years and the parts guys sometimes have wrong part numbers in their system or labeled wrong. Id say just go through someone different and make sure they know its the 2.2 DOHC VTEC

Brake boosters rarely go bad. If yours is somehow bad just pull another from the junkyard. That's not something I would trust from autozone.
