95 Civic EX, stock header - gasoline smell in car and testing the O2 sensor
Windows rolled up, car off for 4 or five hours. I get in to go to work and it smells like a gas station. I get out, look under the car. No leaking fuel. I open the gas cap, and it has pressure like normal. I look under the hood and run my fingers along the fuel line, filter, rail and injectors, no wetness or leaking. Pump primes up right away, car starts like a champ, no sputtering while driving under any throttle load in any gear. This happened a few days ago and i aired out the car. So today was the second time. Whats going on? What should i check next? Surely this isnt safe. I havent done anything to the car recently except add some coolant.

Before I put a hose toward down the car in my gas tank venting line in the firewall this happen to my car. I have the charcoal canister removed.
Maybe some issue with your venting system:
i.e. a hose or a leak in the canister.

from where comes the smell?
probably the car can't burn all of the fuel that is coming and it throws it unburned throught the exhaust
start it up and check the exhaust,is there any unburned fuel

id check under the car while its running....follow the fuel lines.
years ago my mom had a fuel line rupture, she was lucky to get out of her accord before it burnt to the ground..I had no clue that rims could literally burn to dust until I saw that car.
also check lines to charcal cannister.

No smell coming from the fuel pump. And i dont think some of you understand that the CAR WAS SITTING OVERNIGHT AND WAS OFF. I GOT IN AND BEFORE I STARTED THE CAR IT SMELLED LIKE GASOLINE. Not after i started it, before. I am so confused. This came outta nowhere.
RonJ, what do you think? Should i remove the charcoal canister? The guy that posted that had broken english and i didnt quite understand him.
Possibly a leaking injector? I have heard they can smell up your car.
Silly question, but could you have possibly left a gas can in the car? LOL.. My father took my car down to the gas station once and put fuel into a can. Ended up leaving it there and forgetting it. Next day I go to drive and all I could smell was gas LOL told my father about it and he remembered the gas can LMAO

when I do my swap I left this line open and my car always smell like gas station. Then I put a braided hose from this line to under the car and the smell went away.

Did you check for a cracked exhaust manifold or headers?
A) Would give off a gas/rotten eggs smell (much like my bowels after a night of many beers)
B) Could cause engine to run rich

I have also had a similar smell in my car due to an injector o-ring (the one making the seal between the fuel rail and the injector) being worn.
Driving around, I would have no smell, but with the car stopped or idling, I would have this fresh gasoline smell creep in the passenger compartment.
Check around your fuel rail for leaks. Also, have you checked around your fuel filter?

What is the best way to go about using my multimeter to test functionality of my o2 sensor? I also need target values if anybody knows them (volts or ohms). I'm gonna search for them now.
Now that i know the voltages 0.1-1.0 Volts, How should i go about hooking up my multimeter? Should i try to run a couple paper clips between where the o2 sensor hooks to the harness, essentially making a "bridge" of bare wire, that i can touch my multimeter leads to? Or is there a better, more reliable, safer way?
