Alright so I have looked deep into the internet and with google's assistance, have reached no conclusion. Basically I need a new bumper cover for my 89 Civic Si and I don't want to convert to a 90-91 bumper. The only problem is, I can't seem to find one anywhere. Here are the part numbers pulled from hondapartsnow.com:

89 3DR Si Bumper cover: 71101-SH3-960ZZ and 71101-SH3-506ZZ
89 3DR STD Bumper cover: 71101-SH3-000
89 3DR DX Bumper cover: 71101-SH3-000

89 4DR LX Bumper cover: 71101-SH3-960ZZ and 71101-SH3-506ZZ
89 4DR DX Bumper cover: 71101-SH3-000

So here's where I'm confused.. I thought all hatch bumpers were the same and all sedan bumpers were the same. Since the sedan bumper is slightly wider, they are not compatible with hatches. Why is it that the 3DR STD and DX have the same part # as the 4DR DX and the 3DR Si has the same part # as the 4DR LX?? I thought there was no difference in a STD and Si except for sunroof and engine stuff. Shouldn't the bumpers between hatchbacks be exactly the same??

 

The Si came painted the same color as the car, I believe. Whereas the STD and DX were all-black.

Bumper covers can be found on RockAuto.com for $52. They also show the HB and Sedan as the same bumper.

That's right it didn't occur to me that the addition of paint would give it a different part #. It's strange that they have the sedan and hatch as the same part. I was dead sure that the sedan bumper was slightly wider.

 

Is the sedan bumper not slightly wider?

 

I have a 91 hatch and the have a sedan bumper on it and it's wider

 

How did you get the sedan bumper cover to fit on the hatch? I have a new sedan bumper that I bought for my hatch awhile back and like you said, it is too wide. It has been sitting in my garage now for ages.
