I got a 1999 honda civic ex..i just bout some used 17x7 in rims.. The tires that came on them are a little small..they sre 205/40/17....now i know i need new tires but im trying to figure out wat size i should go with to fill that wheel well up...btw it has stock supension.....any inputs? I was thinking maybe a 225/45/17..but i just dont know ifthey will rub

This is a fairly good tool for comparing tire and rim sizes.

 

Your car should dictate what size tire you run more so then your visual preference. Running too large or too small of a tire causes issues with the car's ability to drive, stop, and maneuver. 3% oversize/undersize on the overall tire circumference should be your upper and lower limit, when comparing to the stock tire size.

The biggest you could really go on those wheels are: 215/40/17's (205/45/17's are just outside the realm of 3%, but they're close)

 

Ook.....the fitment guide is basically giving me the size to the OEM wheel...but if I do get the sizes it tells me then I wouldn't be filling in the wheel wells....I would have to lower the suspension..and I don't have the cash for that right now.... I could use some more input on sidewall measurements to see if they would fit

 

those are big wheels on an ek... most run 15 for better tire choice in terms of grip.

 

You can afford tires, but not a decent coilover setup?

 

205/50R17 or 215/45R17

 

i would do 225. have a friend running them now and they look nice and beffy. he has aftermarket susp. too.
