rpm dependant metal rubbing sound
kk guys, kind of hard to explain but i shall try an explain
motor is a built n/a b18a1 and has been running 15k miles no problems
when i hit 3k rpms and higher, i start to hear a swirlling sound coming from the right side of the engine bay. kind of like its coming from the tb/intake manifold or the trans. it is rpm dependant only, and can be heard in neutral or in any gear. it sounds more so like a metal rubbing metal sound in a circular motion.
***i had my distributor shaft seize up and the motor still turned it but it just wasnt keeping spark anymore. new distributor since along with another new 1 for trial/error and all reproduce the same issue. and my distributor caps seem to be wearing down within a months time frame. the 4 contacts on the distrib cap are flakey and white from what i think is over sparking. *i do not know if this is related to the metal/swirl im hearing, but its on the right side of the engine bay*
1- i recently switched the manifold and tb + all new gaskets, and it still makes the sound
2- my pads squeal cause the rotors are rusted but its not a wheel bearing if its rpm dependant.
3- i plan on doing the water pump/idler pulley/timing belt over the weekend and plan to investigate if either of those are the problem incase the sound just bounces to the other side.
other then that though, what would cause a metal swirling sound? rpm dependant is what concerns me. doubting the transmission is the problem but if its the distrib or tensioner etc it needs to be fixed pronto.
will post updates until i find the culprit

its almost impossible to hear it with the hood open and manually opening the tb. but its very distinct from inside the car. does not matter if im parked or moving. still rpm dependant
