Car information: 2000 accord, 4cyl V-tech with 178 k miles. I just recieved this car from my grandma(she said the CEL has been on for awhile). The car drives fine but gets bad gas milage(25 highway) and doesnt seem to shift as normal(at the proper RPM) as it should.
I went to autozone and got 3 codes. P1491 (EGR insufficient) and P0705 P0706 (transmission range switch). I have read about the V6 intake manifold port problem and I am wondering if it is the same problem on my 4 cyl.? As far as the transmission range switch, Im not familure with how to get to it and also how to order the part if that is the problem. I am a college student and cannot afford aton of things but my dad has alot of car knowledge and will help me with any repairs. I am wondering what problems could be causing what, and what problems are in NEED of fixing. Any help is appreiciated!

 

Just as to not step outside of the scope of my knowledge, I will just share what I have learned. The EGR cleaning process is detailed out on numerous you tube vids, just search. As far as poor fuel economy, it could be so many things. I would consider the basic tune up items, plugs , wires, cap and rotor, PCV valve unless those were done recently. There are a million parts places, you might find rockauto dot com has excellent or competitive prices depending on specific parts.Wish I could help out more
