Default benefits in polishing alloy wheels?

Is there a benefit in doing this besides the shiny chrome look? Everywhere I search, someone polished theirs so it's hard to find a set where it has the protective clear coating. Will polishing wheels harm them? Thanks

Polishing wheels will not harm them. The hard part is coating the wheels to make it so they don't oxidize/stain.

Also...polishing wheels sucks....as evidenced by the 3000 craigslist posts of wheels for sale after failed polished attempts/boredom after doing 1 wheel.
