Rd1 roof rack questions
Just recently picked up some roof racks at a local wrecker.
I managed to get everything except one crossbar and the hardware for the other crossbar.
Has anyone ever used crossbars from another vehicle? Odyssey maybe?
Eventually I'd like to have 4 crossbars.

I was at the 'yard trying to find an OEM roof rack for my RD1 a while ago and tested this theory. The yard had 3 or 4 RD1s but none with roof racks. They also had 1st & 2nd gen Odysseys, 2nd gen CRVs, Elements, and Accord wagons that did have roof racks. I pulled any of them that looked 'close' to the size of the CRV's roof and none of them were close enough to be workable, including cross bars.
I wasn't trying to retrofit everything, just the cross bars.
Since my first post I found another OEM set, but complete this time.
I still need to know about the cross bars, because the first set of rails I bought is going to a buddy now. I would also like to do 4 cross bars on mine.
I might go back again today and look, Chevy venture van cross bars almost look identical.
One thing I didn't realize until I had everything home and apart is that the roof rails aren't parallel to each other. The front cross bar is longer than the rear.
Could one of you guys that have OEM rack installed do a couple measurements for me?
Width inside the rails from the farthest point of the track forward then the same at the farthest point to the rear.
Thanks in advance

That would be cool if you could measure it. It will save me from installing the rails on the roof just to measure then take it all back apart.
I ended up getting 6 more cross bars from Chevy venture vans. The tracking is the same.
The bars have slightly less of a bend.
The bars are wider and grab more of the rails.
They are lighter.
They're also like 4 inches longer so there's lots to work with.
I'll post some pics later just in case someone wants to add more or better rails to their crv.

Here's the Chevy venture cross bars.
There's two styles. Must have been a different year, I didn't bother to check.
One has longer feet with built in tie down hoops the other doesn't.
They fit in the crv rails just like the crv bars fit.

Here shows how much longer they are compared to the crv bars. Much wider too.

Here you can see the slight difference in curve.

So far you've been really helpful in this thread. I look forward to more of your helpful comments in the future.
I'll make sure that I put everything in my life on hold so I can get these roof racks installed this weekend. I'll be sure to post pics of them..... on my roof.

Nice they look beefier too. The max weight of the CRV bars is 75lbs according to the install directions. Those should be able to support a bit more. I got mine so I could buy and transport a kayak which is right around 70ish. Are you able to cut those down and resecure them to the track portions?
