Hello HT. I made a post awhile ago about my brake caliper sticking. I got a reman unit from autozone and installed it. Caliper was still sticking..... Got a new brake hose and used the warranty on the reman unit to get a new one (just in case the caliper I got was defective) and the caliper is still sticking. This is only happening on the passenger side. I know for a fact that the caliper and hose were installed correctly. I lubricated the hell out of all the caliper slides and what not. I have powerstop pads and rotors on a 99 Civic hatchback. Can this be an issue with the Prop Valve? I read some threads on other forums that mention that a prop valve can make a caliper stick. That's the only part I haven't checked and I'm not sure how to diagnose it. Is there anything else that can be causing my caliper to stick? it's making my brakes burn and smell bad.

 

if there is dirt or a damaged seal in the prop valve it could hold pressure on the caliper.

If the caliper sticks when parked, you could try opening the bleed valve just enough to confirm the valve is holding pressure on the caliper.

Considering what you've changed, and that the prop valve is where the sides separate it probably is the problem.

 

A couple of things you could try.

Unbolt the caliper and remove the pads. See if the piston can be pushed back in normally.

With the pads still removed, reinstall the caliper and see if you can move it by hand from side to side.

Something worth noting is there are two different caliper slide set ups for your chassis. One has short bolts that hold the caliper on and one has long bolts.

The long bolt has a sleeve and a pair of boots on the caliper mounting points.

The short bolt has a pin and boot in the mounting bracket. This set has a specific pin tha goes in the upper location. One has a plastic sleeve at the end of it, this one goes on top. I've head of sticking calipers when the two pins are mixed up. Wear on the sliders of either design can cause a sticking caliper.
