Default is my CEL not working properly?

Hi, I tried to test my CEL by intentionally disconnecting the map sensor. When I turn the ignition on, the CEL went on, and when I started the engine, it went off, like normal operation.

Here is my vehicle's background:
1997 Accord LX
Engine swap with H23
Chipped P28 ECU

I am expecting that the CEL will stay on. What could be the problem?

I am interested to make sure the CEL is indicating an error because I am working to solve a "no VTEC engagement", which I read that first thing is to make sure there is no CEL. Thanks.

Low oil or stuck VTEC oil pressure switch will not set a code. It will simply not allow VTEC engagement.
When you pulled the MAP sensor wire, did you try to rev the engine? If so, what happened?
