Default waterpump bad? 94 honda accord lx

hey everybody need help with issues i have like car is overheating so i took car in to mechanic they said its head gasket but i highly doubt it just some way to rip me off so i was looking over car coolant is accurate level at times and i did notice that my upper coolant hose is very hot but the lower hose is cold and it looks like its not circulating through lower hose and lately coolant is spraying out of the overflow container it seems like water pump is bad but not sure and it kinda leaks coolant from the waterpump.

so if water pump isnt working then the coolant will overflow to overflow container and if that overflows it comes out the top of the container and flow on to engine bay and then low of coolant will cause engine to overheat? thats what im thinking is happening

my car is a honda accord lx vtec model and its a 5 speed manual

comment what you guys think
thank you

if the system doesn't have any pressure that can cause overheating. also if coolant is coming from the back of the block around the timing cover area you could be losing coolant through the water pump weep hole which would mean that it is bad. if you can get your hands on a compression tester you could somewhat check the condition of the head gasket. if 2 adjacent cylinders have lower pressure than that could mean you have a bad head gasket. a leak down test would absolutely verify that suspicion.

I don't know. is coolant leaking from the weep hole? if coolant is leaking from the weep hole on the water pump then yes it is bad. get a new one. if the motor has been overheated numerous times the cylinder head could have warped causing a head gasket leak.
