Default JDM F22b dohc with h23 head

Ok I traded my del sol out right for a prelude with a JDM f22b. The car ran fine had low miles on the motor all in all it seemed like a pretty good deal since I just wanted to get back in something stock. Long story short I drove the car home and when I tried to crank a lifter go stuck wrecked the cames bent valves was a mess. The guys I got the car from are friends so they came over and put a h23 head on it they said its the same as the f22b. The car sat for about 6 months I came into another project now im back to the Prelude I charged the battery cranked it drove it. The car pulls great its fun to drive. I noticed alot of smoke from under the hood. and there is oil everywhere on the driver side of the engine, the front and the back. They used an h23 head gasket. I have been researching the swap and most threads are old but what im gathering is people are using sohc headgaskets on this motor with the h23 head and there is something about oil passages on the head needing to be filled in with hondabond or epoxy. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. The threads I have found have been people putting the h22 or h23 head on a sohc f series none of which helps my cause. Thanks guys.

You can use a h23/h22 head on a f-series block, its referred to as a G22/G23 swap.

Im not sure about which gasket you should use. But what ECU are you using? I dont think you can be using the sohc ecu with a duel engine.

Hmm, from what I have heard, the F22B is much more related to the H23 than others. Try to clean the oil off and then see where it is actually coming from. Might just be a pinch in the valve cover gasket or something.

Yes this is correct. I always forget about the bastard child of the F series lol. The F22B is to the F20B as the H23a is to the H22a. It has a DOHC non-vtec head and bigger displacement.

It should be the exact same thing as the H23a head and the ecu you have should run it fine.

Ok so I pulled the h23a1 head off and replaced thr head gasket I went ahead and put arp headstuds on instead of the oem bolts. We put the head back on last night cinnected everything set the timing and started it up. Its leaking oil in the exact same place drivers side of the head from front to back under the headgasket. I used an f22 headgasket this time it matched better than the h23. Now im at a stand still not sure what could be the problem

something is not set right, before putting the new head on did you check the block to be sure it wasnt warped? check dowel pins, you may have 2 in one spot and didnt notice?

Im going to pull the head back off while there is only a little oil settled around it. It leaks about a quarter of a quart every 15 mins its not a spray its flow from the way it looks just flowing out from that side of the head. The head sits funny compared to the b series and d series im used to it like the head over laps the block. Im going to pull the head tomorrow and have the machine shop check it. I know before the head swap it didnt leak any oil.

yes but if not untorqued properly it can warp the head or block. pull it off, run a straight edge diagonally across each way on the block use a feeler gauge and check at every cyl pinpoint the edge touches anything bigger than .008 needs to be decked.
