Confused about drive shafts d16a6?
Okay so here's the deal I bought a 92 civic hatch and it needs drive shafts but I don't know what ones to buy. The car has a swapped d16a6 and I know there's a difference in trans from 88-91 so there's my problem I don't know what trans is currently in it and I don't know what year the engine is with I know the head is stamped 8l8 so I guessing the block is a 88. So what I need to know is there anyway I can find out what trans is on it so I can buy axels. Please let me know thank you. Any info will help
your question is confusing.
you have a 92 hatch?
an EG?
or are you in another country that considers 92's part of the EF chassis?
if you have an EF, its all the same axles anyway. (except HF, but thats not part of the scenario)

So if I buy a set of Axels for a 92-95 civic they shud slide right in to my trans. I read that the 88 d16a6 trans have less splines then the 89-91 does that make a difference?
thats odd....
tranny mounts are completely different.
you sure you have a EF tranny? cable clutch?
the spline difference on 88 trannys has to do with the input shaft. not the axles. axles are the same across EF's.
im not certain if the are axle length differences that need to be considered. dont really hear much about ppl putting d16a6 and tranny in EG chassis... maybe someone else can confirm.

Definitely. EFs were cable. Also, the only spline difference would be the 4 speed std gear boxes, right?
EG axles will work though, no doubt.
The information below is spot on. The transmission determines axles more often than not.

Just for information for anyone else that reads through this thread -
"Confused about drive shafts d16a6?"
Drive shafts don't plug into the engine so it doesn't matter what engine you have.
The chassis and transmission dictate which shafts are to be used.
(Steering knuckles hubs can also come into the equation if they have been modified or swapped out.)
