I have a b18c and recently swapped out tranny's due to the old tranny messed up. I had no check engine light, and speedometer was working just fine. Slapped the b16 type r tranny in and put the speed sensor I had before, and it didn't work. I was told the gear on the speed sensor is different from the one I have(brass gear and a lot more narrower) and so I changed the gear but I am still having the same problem! Please Please help!

 

Did the new tranny not have a speed sensor?

 

It did, but it didn't work neither. That's where we swapped out the gears from also, and tried his sensor with my gear, and his gear with my sensor and nothing worked. My speed sensor was working just fine as well as vtec. I dropped my car off at The Transmission shop and they did the install of the b16 tranny. I think they messed something up and they don't want to fix it. They took my money and now I am on my own and freakin out. I don't even know where to begin. So I started here.

 

have you tried replacing the sensor? also any codes?

 

Code 17. The sensor was working just fine in the other tranny. But now it all of a sudden stopped working. If I got a new sensor, which one would I need?
