Default Gearbox advice: Feeling-like-a-Noob Fridays

Let's say I have 2 gearboxes, a B18C5 and a B18B hydro box. I've been contemplating mixing ratios to create a box that's both great on the 1/4mile but will allow me to drive around town and on the highway.

Let me just keep this real... I've been reading up on how gear ratios work and feel a bit lost on the subject... Gearboxes and I have never really seen eye to eye. I have no clue how gear ratios work or if 1.458 is better than 1.269 or why. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

B18C5/B16A ratios:
3.230
2.105
1.458
1.107
0.848
4.400

B18B
3.230
1.900
1.269
0.966
0.714
4.266

I also have a 4.785 final drive put down.

Gear ratios: The higher the number the shorter the gear. The shorter the gear, the less mph at a given rpm. And vice versa.

Gearbox ratios depend HEAVILY on what you want. If you want good for 1/4 mile, your ITR 1-4 is great, as well as your 4.785 FD. If you want better (better than stock ITR) highway cruising, your LS 5th is great.

I personally wouldn't go for the 4.785 FD. I would stick to the 4.4, unless your ITR box already has the 4.785... If you do LOTS of highway driving, I would even consider going to the 4.266 FD from the LS transmission. It wont make a huge difference in your 1-4, but in 5th, you can gain upwards of 5mph for the same rpm at cruising speed!

Keep the stock C5 transmission.

Yes, 1-4 can, but it would be much easier to just change 5th out. I don't recommend the LS 5th though.
