Got a type r 96-97 obd2 motor in a EK 2000. im currently running a chipped p28 with step down harness... my original harness is obd2b

For emissions which ecu should i use? The em1 si one? p2t-c12
and is there anything else i would need?

 

run a type R OBD2B ECU, you will have other sensor issues possibly but since you did not tell us what model car we can not help you there. Also what state are you in?

 

a b16 ecu would probably be enough to get you through as long as ur still using stock 240cc injectors. the ecu must be a USDM ecu ; JDM ecu's will not work either...

 

Not if it is a JDM motor with out the crank sensor, also if he ha a hatch back he will fail for a lack of the FTP sensor.

Yes. Depending on how your state tests.

 

Where does one get a OBD2B ITR ECU?

 

Used?

 

Immobilizer. Only 3 thousand something ITR's produced in the US. Probably only about 2000 or so in 00-01 (OBD2B). The struggle to find one is real. You'd have to find someone selling their key, antenna, and ECU. Finding someone selling a OBD2B ITR ECU is hard enough.

 

On the other hand, a 99-00 Si ECU is cheap and they errwhurr. You could use a 99-00 EX ECU also. Those would be the cheapest ways to pasd emissions.

Even if you could find someone selling a USDM ITR ECU, it'd probably be stolen and it'd probably cost millions anyway. I should have kept mine when I sold my ITR :'(

You would also have to jump the fuel pump wire to run an integra ECU in a civic without any sandwich harness.

There were 300 something USDM ITR's made in 97. Maybe 1300 or 1500 in 98. Good luck.

Why does everyone want this guy to get a super rare and expensive ITR ECU just to pass emissions? Unless his state REQUIRES that the ECU match the engine, it doesn't make sense.

Well, if he can run it on a P2P and a P2T than by all means go for it. As long as he doesn't try to dog it out to the emissions station than he should be fine.

 

You'll need to make sure your other EVAP parts are in order as well including the charcoal canister vent purge solenoid and the EVAP purge that generally runs along the fuel rail area. Post your state however as some states you may simply fail the visual. You'll need to run a secondary 02 as well if you haven't already.

 

I see what you mean now. I fail to remember that most people are shooting for the cheapest route. I actually went and sourced an expensive ecu for my swap so I had no issues with emissions. Immobilizers can be bypassed also.

 

Yes....but this makes sense if this is going to be your regular ECU also. If you need an ECU for one day of the year to pass emissions, going out and buying an ITR ECU isn't your best choice. Its pointless.

You wouldn't have trouble with emissions using a P2P or P2T ECU. It would give you the same effect as a USDM P73, which is difficult and expensive to source.

It would be like recommending that someone should go scouring the internet to find an extremely rare set of Rays Engineering wheels that they then have to modify to put them on...for the sole purpose of using them on the one day of the year that they need to roll their shell out of the garage and onto the driveway so they can sweep the floor. Seems like overkill.

 

cheapest way would be to get a y8 ecu (no immobilizer)and limp to the station .. it would run the car efficiently enough to get there. don't be cracking vtec.. swap ecu's back when ur done going through the lane...

 

You have to drive for a day or 2 with the newly installed ECU. Otherwise, it won't be ready for testing. So yes...drive gingerly...but for a couple days. Or use a 99-00 Si ECU if you're worried.

Ideally, you'd want a OBD2A P72 with an adapter...but this all depends on what your state actually lets you get away with.

 

Search for the driving cycle to reset your monitors after putting a new ECU in, I got mine all set in about 20 minutes of driving.

My friend just gave me a p73- a04 ecu.. the usdm type r ecu will it run fine with my 97 itr swap
