My question is what would be the best way to change the color of plastic interior parts of my car. It has to be durable

There is a lot of retail sotres that carry this product. It works great and if the prep is done right will last lone. If you are going to go with a black color I would recommend SEM Color Coat - Landau Black. It has an oem appearance.

Don't buy anything else. Try to find it locally to your place.

SEM is all you need!

the easy part is vinyl, it sticks really well and wont srcatch/chip at all, dit not try in the midlle of the dash , could not scrach with fingernail in hidden spot.

hard plastic are another thing prep is THE MOST important, had to scrap some to test some prep technique., even there im not that satisfied with the resistance to chip off. I even used a blowtorch to release the relaese agent for the plastic, was good for adhereance but very hard to not melt the finish. found it on youtube.


Anyone could share their method of preping the PP plasctics (polypropylene?)

adherance promoter and good deagreser are needed. follow and use the indication and recommended product.

my friend used duplicolor and had good results. use one brand for the whole project

 

I am in the process of using the SEM color coat spray right now on my CRX and it seems to be working pretty well. Steps I followed:

1. remove interior parts to be painted, and take apart anything that can be taken apart

2. Use warm water and dawn dish soap along with a sponge and a scrub brush to clean the panels as good as you can and let fully dry

3. Use SEM plastic prep to remove any remaining oils waxes dirt that remain on the panels, should probably start looking chalky or dried out. *Wear rubber gloves for this step and from this point on to ensure you do not get oil from your hands on the panels or you will have to start the process over

4. Use SEM Sand Free (adhesion promoter.) Spray the panels with a medium coat of sand free and be prepared to paint very soon after

5. While the Sand Free is still drying, apply your first coat of SEM color coat. Start with a very light coat and let dry 10 minutes

6. apply a second light coat of the color and let dry another 10 minutes. After that you can continue to do another coat every 10 minutes until you get the coverage you want. You can apply heavier coats but be careful not to get too heavy or you will distort the vinyl texture on the panels.

7. let it dry for a few days and reinstall the panels

NOTE: I found that doing this on days with high humidity/rain would cause the results to be foggy looking, its your best bet to do this on a clear warm day and stay out of any direct sunlight while painting.

 

SEM is the only way to go!

As others have mentioned, SEM is the way to go for sure. Be sure you use adhesion promoter prior to the actual color coat if you want some good durability. I use it on refurbishing center consoles all the time. Good luck!
